    Maundy Thursday, observed the Thursday before Easter, commemorates the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with his disciples, where he instituted the Eucharist (Holy Communion) and washed their feet. The name stems from the Latin mandatum ("command"), referring to Jesus' new commandment to "love one another as I have loved you".
