SUNDAY WORSHIP

MARCH 29, 2020

THE FIFTH SUNDAY IN LENT

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and the directive of Governor Mike DeWine of Ohio, and of the Northwestern Ohio Bishop, Daniel Beaudoin, we have suspended all worship services and activities at First St. John Lutheran Church for the foreseeable future. This is our attempt to cooperate in reducing the spread of the COVID-19 virus to our members and neighbors. We are doing this as an expression of our Lord Jesus’ command to love our neighbor and serve them as we would have them regard us.

However, we still wish to remain connected as disciples of Jesus Christ and members of the family of God during these difficult and challenging times. To this end, we are providing limited video recordings and written material that would have been part of the regular worship of the congregation. This includes recordings of music provided by our church organist/accompanist, Dr. Anthony Pattin. These are provided for your inspiration, encouragement, and witness to our community. Please follow the links on this post to other pages and posts, and feel free to share them with others. Check back each week to find the new material that we will be posting. Thank you. Blessings!

MIDWEEK LENTEN WORSHIP 2020 – WEEK 4

Welcome to our weekly posting of the Midweek Lenten Worship services that would ordinarily been held each Wednesday morning and evening during this Lenten season. Here you will find a copy of the Bulletin to download and read along with video presentations by Pastor Rayl of the Liturgy and the Sermon. We hope you find this helpful, inspirational and a way to continue to feel connected, during these extraordinary and challenging times, to your worshiping, praying and serving community of faith at First St. John Lutheran Church

In this week’s Lenten worship, we will learn how some of Jesus’ disciples wanted special places of honor in his kingdom. They did not remember that we are to live in humility, putting the needs of others ahead of our own needs, just as Jesus did for us. We often think of ourselves first, before we think of the needs of others. Two of Jesus’ disciples do the same, as they make a special request of the Savior. Jesus reminds them that his kingdom is a place of humble service. Before glory comes the cross. We will see that on the cross, Jesus drained the cup of God’s judgement against sin, so that there is nothing left in it for us to drink.
